Barbara and Donna Kane
Barbara Kane moved with her family from Massachusetts to Stockton in 1964. She began her work at St. Joseph’s Medical Center as a surgical nurse. She also served in the nursing float pool and pediatrics, before transitioning to Orthopedics where she spent most of her career until 1995.
After Barbara passed away, her daughter, Donna Kane, sought to find a way to have her mother’s legacy live on. Donna established an endowment scholarship in honor of her mother.
“Mom always taught us the value of giving back. A scholarship in perpetuity for future nurses was a fitting way to make a difference forever in our community and to remember her.”
Each Spring, the Barbara Kane Memorial Nursing Scholarship is one of many scholarships awarded by St. Joseph’s Foundation to local students enrolled in a health care field. These merit-based scholarships seek to encourage, inspire and support second year nursing students with support paying for books and tuition.
